In today's digital age, technology has become an integral part of our lives, providing numerous opportunities and conveniences. However, it is essential to ensure that these advancements are accessible to all, including persons with disabilities. Recognizing the importance of inclusive technology, an extraordinary event, the Hackathon of Innovation for Persons with Disabilities, took place at Makerere University from June 12th to June 16th, 2023.
The hackathon's overarching theme revolved around developing technology solutions that promote equal participation and opportunities for persons with disabilities. With the goal of fostering creativity, collaboration, and innovation, this event brought together talented individuals from diverse backgrounds, ranging from tech enthusiasts, developers, designers, and disability advocates.
Organized in partnership with NUDIPU (National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda), UCC (Uganda Communications Commission), 8Technologies Consults Limited, Makerere University, and Nkumba University, the hackathon aimed to create an inclusive environment that fostered innovation while addressing the unique challenges faced by persons with disabilities.
The event attracted participants from various disciplines, united by their shared enthusiasm for inclusive technology.
