The Role:
Mastercard Foundation’s Leaders in Teaching (LIT) initiative aims to transform secondary education across Africa by building the capacity of teachers and school leaders to enable young people to acquire skills, knowledge, and competencies necessary to access dignified and fulfilling employment. Using a multi-partner implementation model, LIT will address critical challenges in the teacher lifecycle through four key programmatic pillars: (1) Teacher Recruitment, (2) Teacher Training, (3) Education Leadership and Management, and (4) Teacher Motivation.
The British Council will lead the TRAIN pillar, and with downstream partners Luigi Giussani Foundation (LGF), Edukans and Brainwave, lead efforts in innovation, competency-based curriculum, gender-responsive pedagogy and career guidance.
The postholder will be responsible for the overall quality delivery of the CBC training component approaches and content, and maintenance of strategic coherence and alignment between the project’s CBC training component and its other technical strands. The role will lead on the effective financial management of the TRAIN Pillar activities, both British Council’s and delivery partner’s, overseeing and managing financial planning, systems, processes, control, budgets and policies. The role will ensure that finance-related activities are established and delivered to the required standards to enable successful project delivery, acting as the main point of contact for all queries relating to project finances, planning, forecasting, compliance and commercial information.
