About Stop TB Partnership/UNOPS PULMq-TB Project
The Ministry of Health (MoH)-National TB/Leprosy Division (NTLD) adopted digital X-ray and CAD as a strategy to increase TB case detection and thus facilitate the finding of the missing TB cases that are not usually reached by the health infrastructure in place due to systemic or patient-level factors. IDI received a grant from the Stop TB Partnership/UNOPS introducing new tool project (iNTP), to implement the Ultra-Portable MinXray Impact System with Qure.ai qXR Software for Community TB Screening in Uganda (PULMq- TB Project). PULMq-TB project will conduct community TB screening among the high-risk populations in the urban and peri-urban settings of Kampala metropolitan and other selected districts of Uganda, inclusive of those in the Karamoja region. The project will also integrate supplementary feeding care aimed at preventing TB infection progression to disease in household contacts of diagnosed bacteriologically confirmed pulmonary TB patients and those households with children diagnosed with TB in three districts of the Karamoja sub-region.
In order to successfully implement the activities for this project, IDI is looking for competent and experienced individuals to fill the positions below.
Purpose: The Nutritionist will provide technical guidance in the implementation of the nutrition supplementation component of the project in line with the current Ministry of Health nutrition guidelines and supervise the Nutrition Assistants. S/he will provide technical guidance on food values and advise patients and the community on nutrition. S/he will ensure that the Project Coordinator is up-to-date with the implementation progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the review of the current health management information systems (HMIS) to inform project M&E needs for the nutrition supplementation component. Advise on the adaptation of the project data capture tool to facilitate profiling of the nutrition status of patients and their contacts in eligible households.
- Adapt the nutrition health education materials into local languages in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders.
- Advise on the quantities and composition of food rations that are adequate for targeted households and districts.
- Coordinate the orientation of the existing community health structures to support community nutrition activities
- Coordinate the setting up of a structure for the delivery of nutrition-dense rations to the eligible households.
- Provide safe, quality, nutrition, and care services to patients
- Evaluate and refer patients for specialized nutrition and care services
- Oversee successful linkage to available therapeutic nutrition support services for eligible TB patients and their contacts.
- Strengthen nutrition education/counselling in households affected by TB in the project districts.
- Develop monthly schedules for the implementation of planned nutrition activities in the supported districts and provide oversight to the implementation of planned nutrition activities
- Leverage the USAID LPHS-TB Activity regional structures to deliver the nutrition supplementation package as planned.
- Work closely with the district nutrition structures to ensure a well-coordinated community nutrition program
- Foster linkages with the district community development structures to facilitate access to available food security community programs.
- Supervise the nutrition assistants and ensure that they deliver according to set expectations.
- Work closely with the Project Coordinator to ensure the availability of resources required for the delivery of the nutrition supplementation component.
- Prepare briefs and participate in update meetings and/or monthly performance review meetings organized by the project management team and key stakeholders.
- Represent the PULMq-TB Project in various fora in the Karamoja region to provide implementation progress updates.
- Document the lessons learned from integrating the nutrition supplementation package in TB-affected households.

Academic Qualifications
- • A diploma in Clinical and Community Nutrition or Food Science and Nutrition, or Human Nutrition and Clinical Dietetics from a recognized University/Institution.
- • Registered by Allied Health Professional Council.
Person Specification
- Knowledge in nutrition management
- Planning, organizing, and coordinating nutrition services/programs
- Skills to engage community stakeholders to deliver on set activities.
- Prior experience in implementing Nutrition Programs is desirable.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Demonstrable knowledge of computer packages, e.g., Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc)
